How To Fix SIM Card Contacts Not Showing On Android

Have you ever found yourself in this situation? Well, even if it hasn’t happened to you, it does happen.
Sometime
your device might suddenly start showing this annoying error of“No contacts on your SIM card”and you just don’t know how to fix it.
Okay, you have removed the SIM, wiped it with your cloth and re-inserted it but the no contacts on your SIM error seems sticky.
Well, I am definitely gonna make sure you don’t leave here with an unsolved problem.
Nowadays,
it’s normal to see a good number of people saving their contacts online
on their Google account, Samsung account, Mi account or any available
account that can save and sync their data.
This is very good and
it’s even safer, convenient, has more space but might not always be
available on a new device without internet connection.
Most people
who come from smaller devices like feature phones must have had a lot
of their contacts saved on the SIM card. Yes, and that’s why the error
is just so irritating.
Imagine swapping your SIM from an older
phone to your Android and trying to call from your contacts isn’t
possible because it’s not showing.
It’s really irritating but
we are going to solve it together. Let’s see some of the things you need
to do if your SIM contacts aren’t showing on your Android device.

If
your device or someone else’s is showing this error and you would love
to fix it yourself, below are the steps or what you need to do to fix
the No contacts on SIM Card error.

This
is one of the first things to check to make sure your device isn’t
wrongly configured. Your Android device can show either contact saved on
your SIM card, Google account, phone storage, Whatsapp, Truecaller,
Messenger, Samsung account, MI account or even all of them, depending on
the accounts on your device.
So what if you mistakenly set it to
display or show just the contacts on your phone storage? Then, if it’s
empty, you probably won’t see anything.
So to make sure your Android device is set to show all the contacts on the SIM, phone, Google etc, follow this guide.
  1. Open your Contacts app from the app drawer.
  2. Click on the options button.
  3. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
  4. Tap on Contacts to display
  5. Select All contacts
You
should now be able to see all the available contacts on your device,
including those on the SIM card. You can select to show only SIM
contacts, to be sure.

Put Your SIM card on another phone to also check

Sometimes
our device might be faulty software or hardware wise. So, to be very
sure it isn’t an issue from the device, look for a working device or a
smaller phone and insert your SIM card properly.
Go to the Contacts and see if your SIM card contacts are displaying. If it’s, very good! If it’s not, there are more things to try okay.

Check your Android App permissions

As
simple as this may sound, it causes loud problems. If you deny any app
the necessary permissions it needs to function well, it would surely
misbehave.
This is mostly seen on newer Android versions and is
always set up at the initial setup of the device. The first time you
open an app e.g camera, it asks for permissions to access important
aspects of your phone.
So if you deny it any, it would not work.
Did you mistakenly deny the contacts/Phone app it’s birthright? Not
sure? Well, let’s see how we can quickly turn things around.
  1. Go to your Settings from the all apps section.
  2. Scroll down and open Apps
  3. Select to view All apps
  4. Click on the options button or 3 dotted icons and select Reset app preferences
  5. Now go back to the Contacts/Phone app and open it.
  6. Accept or permit every action or request it makes until it stops.
  7. See if your contacts are now displaying.
Note: Always accept permission prompts when opening apps for the first time so they can work as intended.

This
is one funny thing I noticed on some Chinese phones. Sometimes, you
just need to import the contacts on your SIM over to the device and they
will then show up.
Importing contacts isn’t as hard as the problem we are trying to solve. All you have to do is,
  • Go to your Contacts or phone app.
  • Open the settings
  • You should immediately find an option Import/Export contacts
  • Click on it and in the corresponding prompt, select Import Contacts from SIM card.
  • Next you have to select where to import them to. Choose Google, phone storage or what ever option that suits you.
  • Select all the contacts(if available) and allow it to import.
  • When done, you should now be able to find the imported contacts in the contacts list.

Check your SIM Memory status

Does this sound like am going off the track? Well, this could be the solution to your no contacts on SIM card issue.
I have seen quite a number of Android devices showing the no contacts on SIM card because the memory is full or almost filled.
You might wonder, where is the stuff in the SIM, I haven’t even saved up to the maximum contacts on the SIM.
Remember that your SIM card doesn’t only save contacts? Okay, so what else does it save?
Messages!
Yea, it does save messages in its memory. So how do you know if the SIM
memory is filled up and it is making your Android device not to be able
to access the SIM contacts? Let’s quickly run through the fix.
It’s pretty simple and straightforward but a life/phone saver.
  • The first thing you have to do is to go to your default SMS/Text/Messaging app and open it.
  • Click
on the options key or the 3 dotted icons at the top right of your
screen(depending on your phone type/model/software version.
  • Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
  • Select More Settings
  • Click on Text Messages
  • Select Manage SIM card messages
  • If
there are any messages saved on your SIM, it will be displayed here.
You can mark all of them or the useless ones and delete them.
  • Now joyfully go back to your contacts, the SIM contacts will now be visible.
These
are some of the best ways to fix no contact on SIM error on an Android
device.
